Preparation courses give students the edge when it comes to succeeding in college and/or training programs. These programs are designed to get you ready to do your best. Whether you want to strengthen your language skills, improve your computer literacy or get a head start in foundational subjects such as math, science and medical terminology, the Education Fund’s preparation programs can help.

Tech Exchange is offering eligible members in Northern California an in-person Computer & Technical Skills course. Each course consists of 8 hours of instruction, delivered in two 4-hour sessions over two days. The interactive course is designed to help learners build essential computer skills for work and everyday life. Upon successful completion of the full 8 hours of instruction, learners will receive a laptop at no cost. Classes are offered year-round and instruction can be provided in English or Spanish.

- Google Workspace
- LinkedIn Basics
- Zoom Videoconferencing.
How to access courses:
Log in to your MyEdFund profile. Then, go to Available Programs > Preparation & Critical Skills > Computer and Technology Skills (Tech Exchange) > Complete your registration by clicking the link provided.
Allow up to 3 business days for confirmation of your eligibility and spot in the class.

AI & ChatGPT
Learnit has added some new courses to address a trending topic: Artificial Intelligence (AI). Courses include:
- Explore AI Essentials: Learn what AI is, its applications, and the ethical considerations involved.
- Learn AI to Boost Your Productivity: Learn to use AI tools like ChatGPT to automate routine tasks, research and summarize data, and personalize workflows.
- Use AI to Upgrade Your Writing: Learn to use AI tools like ChatGPT to generate ideas, draft documents, and improve editing and proofreading.

To register for Learnit computer classes, log in to your MyEdFund profile. Then, go to Available Programs > Preparation & Critical Skills > Computer and Technology Skills (Learnit) > Complete your registration by clicking the link provided.

San Jose Learning Center (SJLC) offers in-person English Language Learning courses for eligible Education Fund learners in Northern California. Their structured 7-week program helps learners strengthen speaking, listening, pronunciation, grammar, and overall communication skills for personal and professional growth. To ensure appropriate class placement, learners are required to complete a written and verbal proficiency assessment administered by SJLC prior to enrollment.
How to register:
- Complete the Ed Fund application through the MyEdFund learner portal.
- After applying, SJLC will contact you directly to begin the placement process.
- Complete a written (grammar) assessment via Google Form.
- Complete a verbal assessment with an SJLC instructor via Zoom or phone call.
- SJLC will recommend the best-fit course level and share the next available schedule.
- Learners will be enrolled in the next available course that matches their level.
El Centro de Aprendizaje de San José (SJLC) ofrece cursos presenciales de aprendizaje del idioma inglés para estudiantes elegibles de Education Fund en el norte de California. Su programa estructurado de 7 semanas ayuda a los estudiantes a fortalecer sus habilidades de conversación, comprensión auditiva, pronunciación, gramática y comunicación en general para su crecimiento personal y profesional. Para asegurar que cada estudiante sea ubicado en el nivel de clase adecuado, los estudiantes deben completar una evaluación de dominio escrita y verbal administrada por SJLC antes de la inscripción.
Cómo registrarse:
- 1. Completar la solicitud de Ed Fund a través del portal de estudiantes MyEdFund.
2. Después de aplicar, SJLC se comunicará directamente con el estudiante para iniciar el proceso de evaluación de nivel.
3. Completar una evaluación escrita (gramática) mediante un formulario de Google.
4. Completar una evaluación verbal con un instructor de SJLC a través de Zoom o llamada telefónica.
5. SJLC recomendará el nivel de curso más adecuado y compartirá el próximo horario disponible.
6. Los estudiantes serán inscritos en el próximo curso disponible que corresponda a su nivel.
To prepare you for academic course work, we offer online basic math and science courses through the Kaiser Permanente School of Allied Health Sciences (KPSAHS), and they are open to all Education Fund members:
- Medical Terminology
- Basic College Math
- College Algebra
- Biology
- Anatomy and Physiology
These courses are not eligible for college credit. Students work at their own pace in a 6 week period and course content is available 24/7 during scheduled class session. Certificates of completion are available.
Registration for the 2026 Fall session will open September 14 – October 11.
