As a member of SEIU-UHW, you have access to an incredible resource: the Education Fund. UHW members have fought hard to grow the Education Fund to $28 million annually, and 16,000 members every year are sharpening their skills and realizing their dreams through our comprehensive services.
- Graduates who moved into higher level roles saw an average hourly wage increase of 36%.
- 70% of learners are people of color.
- More than 80% of learners graduate and pass certification exams.
Futuro Health
Through the 2019 contract negotiations, SEIU-UHW members fought for and won $130 million from Kaiser Permanente to create a new resource, called Futuro Health, so that UHW members in good standing can refer friends and family to apply for high-quality online job training programs. Successful graduates will have a chance to be placed in good healthcare jobs and become SEIU-UHW union members. Through Futuro Health, UHW will recruit, train, and place 10,000 new healthcare workers over the next four years.
Our partnership
The Education Fund and Futuro Health are partner organizations working together to provide the greatest opportunities for job advancement and growth to UHW members and the community. By 2024, California will need 500,000 new allied healthcare workers. Today, many of those jobs go to lower-paid, non-union workers with minimal training. Through this partnership, the Education Fund will continue to advance the careers of current healthcare workers, while Futuro Health focuses on training the next generation.
What does this mean for you?
The Education Fund will continue to offer all of our great programs and services to our members. These include career planning, community college assistance, tuition support for training and certification programs, on-line and in-person continuing education (CEUs), computer classes, and much more.
