For Sabrina Cross, advancing her nursing career has been a long-term goal years in the making. As an LPN in Dermatology at Kaiser Permanente Sunnybrook, she set out to earn her associate degree in nursing, become an RN, and continue her education toward a BSN and eventually a Master’s in Nursing.

With support from the Education Fund’s Wage Replacement and Career Pathway programs, Sabrina was able to stay focused on her studies while balancing work and family responsibilities. Her hard work paid off. Sabrina graduated with highest honors, was inducted into an honor society for associate degree nurses, and is preparing to take the NCLEX exam. She hopes to continue her career at Kaiser as an RN while pursuing her BSN and working toward her ultimate goal of earning a Master’s in Nursing.

Beyond the educational milestones, Sabrina says the experience helped her gain confidence and realize what she was capable of achieving.

The Ed fund helped boost my self-confidence, helped me to see my deepest potential, and helped me to ultimately finish a goal that I have had for the past 16 years.

Today, Sabrina continues to look ahead, with plans to pursue additional certifications, remain active in professional organizations and committees, and continue learning throughout her career. Her advice to coworkers is simple: it is never too late to return to school, college or trade school in order to complete a goal or obtain a degree.
