“The Education Fund helped me pay a portion of my studies via the Tuition Support Program, and the flexibility it offered allowed me to take critical courses online.”
In celebration of the Education Fund’s 20th anniversary, we’re sharing stories of the Ed Fund’s profound impact on our members’ lives through the years. Desiree Felix, a NICU Nurse at Dignity Health Northridge, has worked in hospitals since she was 19 years old. As a mother of four, Desiree’s decision to return to school later in life was driven by her desire to do more for her family and the patients she cared for. After years as a Hospital Unit Secretary, she decided to pursue a nursing career. With the support of the Education Fund, Desiree completed her Nursing degree, using the Tuition Support program to help with costs and taking online classes to accommodate her busy life. Since becoming a nurse, Desiree has seen her career flourish, including a 48.5% wage increase. Now, as a NICU nurse, she continues to share her success story with her co-workers, encouraging them to take advantage of the Education Fund’s resources. Desiree’s next goal is to become a NICU supervisor and continue to inspire others in the field.
