Timeline: Cultivating member leadership

Cultivating member leadership

M2Ms develop and maintain partnerships with union and management leaders to coordinate outreach efforts and address workforce development needs within their facility.

Timeline: 2009 Accomplishments

The beginning of College Courses

The original STEP program included a series of English, math and science classes offered as a multi-semester package to prepare students for entry into nursing and allied health training programs. Students proceeded through classes as part of a casual cohort, and receive tutoring and introductory bridge classes before taking each science course. In its current form, College Courses continues to work with a large number of local community colleges who offer prerequisite and General Education courses, while the Education Fund supports participating learners via career counseling, financial assistance, academic support and online learning preparation.

Apprenticeships expand

Through the collaboration of SEIU-UHW, Kaiser Permanente and the SEIU-UHW & Joint Employer Education Fund, this program was the first-ever federally registered apprenticeship program at Kaiser Permanente in California. After three months of classroom training and six months of on-the-job experience, Sally and a cohort of Kaiser apprentices successfully moved into ambulatory coding positions.
